The three founders of Eastleigh S&C Ltd took advantage of the privatization of British Rail (and their own redundancy!) to purchase a small part of the National Materials Management portfolio which specialized in recycling spare switch and crossing units (S&C).

From a straight forward process of buying and selling this specialist material the company has developed into a key supplier of emergency S&C to Network Rail and other UK rail companies.  Our range of permanent way and network knowledge, built-up over 40 years in the industry, enables us to anticipate the sort of S&C defects that face Track Engineers on a daily basis. When a key part of a layout becomes defective we are ready to supply a replacement in as little as 8 hours – including transport time.  Fortunately many defects are not quite that urgent, with Network Rail Standards requiring rectification in perhaps 7 days. Such a quick turn-around niche-market means that our forward order book rarely extends beyond a month, but despite this, business has never failed to appear and we continue to grow year by year.

Our key resource is our staff, and here we include the founders, because everyone can, and does, get involved in the shop floor processes.   Such flexibility makes it easy to respond quickly to the rapidly changing demands that roll off the fax machine.
